OCODE is a Non-Governmental Organization founded in 1999. It was registered in 2003 under Society Ordinance Act of 1954 and complied with NGO Act of 2002 in March 2011. The organization was established by a group of fifteen Tanzanians of different expertise with the aim of working with the community to address its health problems, particularly regular outbreak of cholera, rampart malaria and HIV/AIDS in Temeke. In the course of working closely with communities in implementing the CBHC project (Community Based Health Care), it was discovered that the health problems encountered were mainly due to lack of formal education and most children were not attending schools. It was in that respect that the founding members when registering the organization decided to focus on enabling children to go to school as thus address health problems through education. Since 2003 OCODE is implementing a Community Based Education Intervention Program under the partnership of Stromme Foundation (2003 to date) and Intervita Onlus (since 2012 to date).
